It's Election Day! Kids Vote Too!

Tonight I volunteered for an organization that lets kids do mock ballots and vote, to get in the practice of voting and understanding the process. The ballots had photos of each of the candidates next to their name. I heard some adults say why don't they have those on the adult ballots? Kids loved being able to vote- I think they felt "grown up." I know my niece "voted" this morning at their city hall, and she was excited to do it.

Kids say the funniest things, as they "vote" for our future president and senator and Supreme Court judges, etc.

Here's a few of the comments I saw or heard as kids looked at the ballot:

"Which one was the nice man, Mom?"

"I don't want to vote for any of those for President. I only want to vote for Momma!" (He wrote in Mom for president underneath the list!)

A 2-year-old: "Barack Obama! John McCain!" I think he was undecided...

"Mom, don't help me. I want to do it myself!"

So American kids are learning the democratic process!

I of course voted today too- and I'm glad to have the opportunity to vote. I hope many people got out to the voting places to vote. And I'll await the results late late tonight or tomorrow morning to find out if Obama or McCain will be our next president.
